The Solid Shell Stitch creates a shell pattern with very few holes. The Solid Shell Stitch would be great for bags, cowls, and baby blankets!
Step 1: Foundation Chain
- Create a foundation chain in multiples of 6 + 1 (add 1 for base chain)
Step 2:
Begin you’re row with 1/2 a shell:
- 2 double crochets in 4th chain from hook (makes a 3 post 1/2 shell)
- Skip 2 chains
- 1 single crochet in next chain
Step 3:
Continue down the row creating shells:
- Skip 2 chains
- 5 double crochet in next chain
- Skip 2 chains
- 1 single crochet in the next chain
- Repeat step 1 to 4 until you have 3 chains left.
- Skip 2 chains
- 2 double crochet in the last stitch (ending with a 1/2 shell)
Step 4:
In the second row, start with a single crochet, then create a full shell
- Ch 1
- Turn
- 1 single crochet into the first stitch
- Skip 2 stitches
- 5 double crochet in next stitch
- Skip 2 chains
- 1 single crochet in the next stitch
- Repeat steps ending with 1 Single crochet in the last stitch
