How to Crochet the Double Crochet Stitch
The double crochet stitch is one of the most common crochet stitches. It is a taller stitch than single crochet.
Step 1
First make a slip knot and foundation chain 14 stitches.

Step 2

Step 3
Bring the yarn over the crochet hook from back to front and draw it through the chain stitch and up onto the working area of the hook; you now have three loops on the hook.

You now have two loops on the hook.

Step 4:

You have now completed one double crochet; one loop remains on the hook

After working in each chain across, count your double crochet stitches. There should be 12 of them, counting the first three chain stitches you skipped at the beginning of the row as a double crochet.

Step 5: Double Crochet Crochet for Row 2
Chain 3 (ch 3; for the turning chain).
Yarn over the hook (yo).
Skipping the first stitch of the row directly below the turning chain, insert your hook in the next stitch

Work 1 double crochet in the top chain of the previous rowβs turning chain

You should have 12 double crochet stitches in Row 2 (counting the turning chain as 1 double crochet).
