What you need
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups of regular milk
- 1/3 cup heavy cream
- 1/3 cup of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 loaf of challah bread (preferably raisin)
- 1 cup of coarsely chopped pecans
- 3 tablespoons of sugar
Iceing
- 1/2 cup of powered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of milk
Warm Raisin Syrup
- 2 cups of maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1/2 cup of raisins
What you do
- In a large bowl beat the 6 eggs
- Whisk together the milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg and salt
- Slice the entire loaf of bread into 1 inch thick slices
- Dip each piece of bread in the egg mixture and then lay them overlapping in a 9-by-13 dish
- Pore the remaining batter over the top of the bread slices
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight)
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
- Remove bread from fridge and top with pecans and sprinkle with sugar
- Cover with a layer of parchment paper and topped with tin foil
- Bake for 25 min.
- Remove the foil and parchment and bake for another 25 mins.
For the Icing
- In a small bowl, mix the milk and and powered sugar
- Drizzle the icing over the top of the french toast
For Syrup
- Prepare the raisin syrup by mixing the syrup, raisins, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg
- Warm syrup for 3 mins, until butter has fully melted
- Serve while still warm
