2012 St. George’s Grenada

2012 St. George's Grenada

Dec. 01, 2012 to Dec. 07, 2012: Our wonderful relaxing vacation to St. George's Grenada where we hiked, relaxed and were pampered.

Day 1: Saturday December 1st 2012

Most of the day was spent traveling to Grenada and we didn’t get to the hotel until 10pm. The optimist in us both has us very excited to see everything during the day. We can hear the waves crashing and even in the evening the pool and grounds are beautiful. The kitchen was closing when we arrived but the staff was kind enough to stay a little late and serve us. Melissa and I didn’t even read the menu because our server mentioned the grilled fish when going through the specials. Melissa had grilled snapper and I had grilled Mahai Mahai.

The Laluna property is on a steep incline down to the beach and the different bungalows are set into the incline. After dinner we climbed the steps to our unit in the middle of the property #9. As you know we have styled at many luxury / relaxed resorts, and I must say our room is perfect. Huge king size bed with a canopy looking out to French doors. The French doors lead out to our private deck with a personal plunge pool facing the ocean. We can’t wait to see the view in the daylight.

We giggled our selves to sleep while listening to the waves crash.

Day 2: Sunday December 2nd 2012

Laluna in the daylight did not disappoint. We threw open the curtains to see a stunning view of the ocean that we could enjoy from the bed! Our room is about 10 stories up from the beach and the entire resort is set in a little cove. There is no better way to greet the day then a breathtaking view of the ocean.

Today was our first full day in Grenada and we decided to just relax. We took are time wandering down to breakfast. While we ate we scoped out our beach spot. We have our sights on the two lounge chairs with the grass umbrella. The other guests all appear to be couples and so far we are the only Americans.

We borrowed snorkel gear and went swimming. The cove makes the water very clear and very calm with small waves. It is surprising warm as well. After the swim we both read for most of the morning. Lunch was also at the resort because we had no plans to leave.

When the sun went down the band started setting up in the bar. We went down to dinner early to listen to the music and have a drink.

Day 3: Monday December 3rd 2012

Rain Forest Trip

Grand Etang: You will meander through the lush tropical rainforest up to the Grand Etang National Park.

Seven Sisters: A hike through the rainforest to the Seven Sisters waterfalls, where you will have an invigorating swim in the waterfall and fresh water pools.
Up and at’em early for the rainforest hike. Our guide, Lennox was fantastic and considering all the hikes we have gone on in various countries, he was by far the best guide we have ever had. As we drove near the entrance of the trail, Lennox started to honk the horn to “tell is friends” that he had arrived. Little did we know that his friends were the monkeys. One of his buddies climed down the tree and over his shoulder to get a banana and then did the same to Melissa!

We drove down to a huge volcanic lake where we fed bread to the tilapia fish and tired to catch them with our bare hands. Lennox had no trouble but they were too slippery for us. We were content to just let them nibble on our fingers.

During the hike we ate fresh guava, smelled nutmeg, cinnamon and other local plant life. It was really nice to have a guide who encouraged us to use all our senses not just sight. Plus his humor about the Sally plants resemblance to lady parts was hysterical.

We arrived at the waterfall where a local did tricks for our amusement. Then it was just the two of us in the waterfall basin and we enjoyed the beauty of nature.

On the way back we met up with local farmers and ate fresh banana and played with the puppies and cat. We then went with one of the farmers so he could show off his pigs. We really couldn’t understand a word the man was saying but he seemed really happy that we liked his animals. We barely noticed that he was talking to us the entire time holding a machete. Typical us, we didn’t even think twice about following him into the rain forest and it wasn’t until the ride back when Lennox was telling us how he has to remind the farmer that the tourists don’t understand him and get scared when he talks with the machete in his hand that we even thought about it! It was a truly perfect day!

Day 4: Tuesday December 4th 2012

Guided St. George’s Trip

Spice Market: First you will be driven to the capital of St. George’s to experience the ‘Market’ where you can buy your spices for your friends and family back home.

Fort George: There you have a panoramic view of the city, Grand Anse and all the south west coast, from the top of the fort walls.

Shop: You will have an opportunity to pick up some local handicrafts at Art Fabrik & Tikal.
Lennox came to pick us up for our personal tour of Grenada. There is a very clear colonial influence to the town which we didn’t expect and stems from both the French and English occupations. The old style architecture with the bright Caribbean colors and the clear blue water make this a really beautiful island. On most of the high points there are old forts that are weathered.

First we went to the spice market. Grenada is known for its spices, especially nutmeg and cinnamon . It’s the isle of spice where everything is nice. We walked through, each vendor trying to convince us they had the perfect thing for us. We purchased a local form of air fresher, a necklace all strung with delicious smelling spices. On the way out we bought coconut water, and I mean the top of a coconut chopped off with a straw in it!

We stopped ito look at the local art and just wandered around the town a bit. Then lunch at Deyna’s tasty food, a local favorite. We both had the baked chicken with beans and rice. It was absolutely delicious. We were the only non-locals in the entire place which we all know is a great sign!

Day 5: Wednesday December 5th 2012

Taste of Laluna

This cooking package is all about having fun. Guests have the opportunity to spend time, one on one with our Italian Chef and prepare dishes just like a true “Soprano, so that you can impress your friends at your next dinner party at home. Also, it is a chance to prepare Laluna style rum punch with our local bartender.
A cooking class with laluna’s chef is what’s on the agenda today. We are learning how to prepare the delicious crab linguini and pumpkin Gorgonzola risotto. After the class we ate our creations with the chef.

After our lunch we strolled down the beach and watched a local man weave a beautiful basket. We really enjoyed talking with him and hearing his simple outlook on life. The beast part is that we now are the proud owners of a basket we watched being created. He also gave us small birds made of reeds that we plan to hang on the Christmas tree.

The rest of the day was lazy, we read and enjoyed the ocean.

Day 6: Thursday December 6th 2012

Body Bliss Experience

Rejuvenation for your mind, body and soul. You will enjoy a couple’s facial and side by side massage in our Asian Spa followed by a private yoga session. This would be sure to have you leaving Grenada refreshed, relaxed and inspired to return to your own reality.
Most of the day we just sat and read our books and enjoyed the beautiful view. We made friends with the local dogs, Lucy and Ricky… LaLuna’s owner’s dogs. They wondered up and sat with us.

As the day wound down we went and got our facials and massages. They were lovely and the facial was especially wonderful after having our skin exposed to the sun for so many days.

Day 7: Friday December 7th 2012

Our final day in paradise, we did nothing but sit and relax. Jessy learned how to “grow” her own yeast to make her own bread when we return. We’re sad to leave but thankful for such a wonderful relaxing trip.
